A tremendously exciting read
"A tremendously exciting read" Judge Sanford M. Brook

Deals with a real trial
Patricia Williams, Acting Justice of N.Y. Supreme Court says about Gun Crazy: "I truly enjoyed Mr. Booker's writing. He knows the secret of making you want to actually visit the scenes he describes so well. . . Mr. Booker's book is different than others, because it deals with the many different aspects of a real trial. Hence, the characters are drawn with detail and care."

Warren Burnett recommends this book
Warren Burnett said: "Superbly, writer Booker honors his craft in this story of a courtroom trimph made possible by the grit and grace of Kerrville's Scott Stehling, a true examply of the decent and talented lawyer."

A fantastic story about life in a small town
Anyone who has ever been to a small town will be able to relate to and understand the sense of community Dr Taylor describes in his book and the impact a man like this can make. This is a book that makes you long for the days where people were judged by their deeds and there was an obligation not to just your family, but to the community as well. If you think that one person cannot make a difference, read this book.

A great story about small town life.
This is a great conversation about what life is like in a small town. Anyone who has been to this part of East Texas will appreciate the stories about how remote and isolated life use to be. The book is written in a manner that makes it a very easy read, and it is hard to put the book down.

A friend of the author
We just buried Dr Taylor here in Nacogdoches ... The pastor presiding at the funeral had a copy of Dr Taylor's book and quoted from it extensively. I had forgotten about the book until then and have recently purchased it. Buy it.

High Drama in Fabulous Toledo: A Novel

True crimes and imaginary heroes
How much of what you choose to do and say is influenced by your interior life? Most of us smuggle the contraband of our dreams in our pockets, existing part-time in an isolating underground that no one ever sees, as do the characters in _High Times in Fabulous Toledo_.

Lily James' people live parallel lives that only intersect when a ludicrously botched kidnapping forces them to confront the glaring difference between what they have imagined their lives and themselves to be, and who they really are.

This story is a hilariously tragic fable that pierces the truth of our fantasy lives. Lily James shows us how our imaginary identities both shape our authentic selves, and isolate us from one another. A fast, funny romp that left me hoping for more from this young and brilliant author.

An original writing style; very compelling and readable, FUN
"High Drama in Fabulous Toledo" is a funny, readable, delightful novel from an author I will be watching. If you like women's fiction but long for something truly original and fresh, THIS IS IT. Her writing style just carries you along - it's a compelling and new way of getting to know a character - which makes it one of those books you can't wait to get back to. Adventure and philosophy, sociology and brain studies fans will find much to think about here, all in the form of an entertaining read.

Brilliance in motion!
I want Lily James to write about my kidnapping! ... or at least about my hometown!
This is one quirky tale about a kidnapping gone very wrong. Two parts love, one part terror, added to a heavy dose of comedic BRILLIANCE and you've got a book you'll want to read again and again.
Lily James' ability to crawl beneath the skin of her characters and drag you along with her is uncanny and terrific - not to mention terrifying and exhilerating.
This is a Hal Hartley film waiting to be made. Hear that HAL HARTLEY?? You need to make this movie!!
This and _The Great Taste of Straight People_ make me a permanent member of the Lily James fan club.

The Mind on Fire: A Faith for the Skeptical and Indifferent
Published in Paperback by Regent College Pub (March, 2003)
Authors: Blaise Pascal, James M. Houston, and OS Guinness
Average review score:

And I don't even agree with everything
I give it 5 stars and I don't necessarily agree with all of his theology. His points are made from such a unique stand point. His ways of reasoning are very unique to me, yet he doesn't lead you to rely on his type of reasoning, but on the power of the Holy Spirit.
He makes many good points for any atheist to consider. His work on the subject of the Jews is interesting. I disagree with his stance on proofs of nature and some of His views God's restorative plans for Isreal, but who had views for God to restore Isreal 300 years ago?
If you like reading books, this one is diffrent and well thought out!

PAR EXCELLENCE!
This is the finest introduction to Blaise Pascal that I have ever seen! Within the pages of this book lie some of the greatest thoughts the human mind could ever aspire to perceive. 'Mind on Fire' is an easy to read, well-arranged anthology of Pascal's thought. In this book you will begin to see the role of logic and reason in the life of faith. If you are looking for an in-depth book, a book that penetrates the deep well of skeptical thought, 'Mind on Fire' will not waste your time or your money. Simply put, Pascal is a genius with a knack for apologetical thought.

Pensees +
In case you're wondering, this IS the Pensees. The only difference is that these thoughts are arranged topically under a new title plus five letters from Pascal are included in the rear of the book. This is not an abridged edition of the Pensees. That being said, this book will stimulate your thinking about human nature, divine sovereignty, faith, logic and apologetics in a way that few other works will. Being deeply influenced by Augustine, Pascal had an uncanny way for accurately portraying the human condition. His grasp of the sinful nature of mankind and the limits of reason was acute. Many believe that Pascal was a fideist (faith is not supported by reason) due to a cursory reading of the Pensees yet a more exhaustive reading will prove otherwise. Many of the Pensees, while not rationally proving Christianity, certainly state that he believed in a reasonable faith and not a leap of faith beyond logic. I would recommend this edition as opposed to the Pensees because of its logical arrangement in addition to the thought-provoking letters that are placed in the back. Definitely a great read.

Fun
This book is a real gem, both for a twist on the usual Christmas story (the paw prints of 8 tiny gators) as well as the regional aspect. It is a hoot to read out loud, to yourself and others!

Cajun Night Before Christmas
I have had this book for almost twenty years, and every Christmas my friends beg me to read it to them with my Cajun accent. This is such a FUN book for children and adults, and it is written in the Cajun dialect so that it is easy to have a Cajun accent. I have never met anyone who didn't fall in love with this book! Buy it! You won't be sorry, and it will become a family heirloom for many generations to come.

Fantastic, the new Christmas classic, everyone should own it
This book will be a great gift for any transplanted Cajun. I recieved this as a gift many Christmas"s ago. It has a special place on my bookcase, and is shown to all my guests. I brought it to work, read it in its true nature to my co workers and they all wanted a copy of it. This book is a must for all households, large and small. It is heart warming, and comical. Sometimes I take it out of my bookcase and hug it, that is how special it is to me. No home should be without it.

The Global Entrepreneur: Taking Your Business International
Published in Paperback by Dearborn Trade Publishing (October, 1999)
Author: James F. Foley
Average review score:

Perfect
Exciting, inspiring, motivating, encouraging, helpful, informative, clear, comprehensible, easy to read. Excellent book!!! Knowledge, experience, and passion towards discussed topics just shines through every page. Written in a easy to understand language, the book is a perfect aid to not only beginning exporters/importers, but also experienced ones. Lexicon doesn't belittle reader's mental abilities by chewing on every elementary detail; at the same time it doesn't bombard anybody by heavy concepts and trade jargon. Author uses great approach to delivering information - logical, clear and ordered.

The best ¿How-To¿ book I¿ve found on international sales
Mr. Foley takes it right from the start - from solid information on whether to even consider making international sales, all the way through to direct foreign investment. Along the way he provides detailed examples, reference materials, and a number of excellent resources that take the mystery out of international sales.

Perhaps most importantly, this is not a regurgitation of MBA material on the subject - Mr. Foley has directly relevant experience, having spearheaded international expansions earlier in his career and now advising companies on how to achieve their global potential.

This is an excellent reference that our company continues to use as we expand to new markets globally and work to increase our share in markets we're already addressing.

Excellent
This is an excellent source for everything from foreign market evaluation to the documentation for your first sale. Well written and enjoyable to read. While startng out in the game of global enterprise, I have a lot of questions. The questions are being answered, plus all the ones I didn't know I needed to ask. The book excites me to pursue the markets. Before hand I thought it would frighten or discourage me, reading about all the work and risk involved. It was encouraging to hear that international business is where to see the world and its cultures, not just a way to increase profits. I plan to use this book as the guide when our company goes global.

Road Rage and Aggressive Driving: Steering Clear of Highway Warfare
Published in Paperback by Prometheus Books (October, 2000)
Authors: Leon James and Diane Nahl
Average review score:

A great supplement to driver's education
I've been reading this book over and over during the last few months, and there's more information than one can expect about automobile driving. Authors James and Nahl clearly permeate their psychological knowledge throughout the pages, which unfortunately, is a mild setback in the audience they would hope to reach. Clearly, however, they have identified nearly every aggressive thought that some drivers are exhibiting as daily behaviors. There are charts and worksheets galore, way more than I believe the average driver is willing to commit time to study and fill in. That's the problem.

After driving, whether or stressful or not, few of us want to be reminded of it, simply because the mind rejects negative events. We say, "I really don't want to talk about it right now" (about a drive to or from work, for example). What we're not saying is parenthetical ("...because talking about it makes me angry, and I don't want to be angry, both of which serve no useful purpose.) In other words, the authors have crammed so much psychological information into "Road Rage" I feel it would now push them away, meaning that the only drivers left who would be attracted to it are those, now or formerly, are actually addicted to an aggressive driving style (yes, I was). Believe it or not, this is precisely what aggressive drivers and road ragers need. What would have really reinforced the authors' ideas is a section on the implication and interaction of physiological factors, such as too much caffeine too quickly, low blood sugar, insufficient dietary protein (all of which affect neurotransmitter production and neurological receptor sites) that are directly responsible for the aggressive thoughts and behaviors they write about.

I would still recommend this book, however, as a "prescription" or as required remedial reading if I were a police officer or a judge who just imposed a fine on a ticketed driver. Denial is thick. It will take some time for the ideas to sink in, but they will sink in. I am impressed at the detail given to self-evaluation of driver behaviors. So you really don't need to be a member of a QDC (Quality Driving Circle) to implement the suggestions in this book. To sit and talk with others in a group setting about driving is strangely reminiscent of an AA meeting, thereby implying that one does not want to be labeled an aggressive driving addict. But being obsessed with driving, whether we like it or not, is the only way to prevent needless accidents, injuries and property damage. "Road rage" is highly recommended for drivers of all ages (might be difficult for readers under 18: reading level). So far, this is one of the best books available on the psychological aspects of automobile driving.

Invaluable reading for anger management studies.
What are the symptoms of road rage and how can aggressive driving patterns and encounters be halted? In Road Rage and Aggressive Driving, the authors trace these problems to childhood roots and attitudes toward the law: they argue that road rage is experienced by most drivers, and tell how to use self-tests to estimate personal road rage tendencies. A three-step program to transform drivers from aggressive to supportive drivers is included.

Driving You Crazy
Road Rage is a winner! It will resonate with readers who have been threatened on the road, trapped in a car with an irrational driver, or who want to shake off learned habits of driver aggression. It gives us a peek at the distorted reasoning behind driver aggression, as well as larger implications for our auto-centered culture. It is a fascinating, accessible, and well-documented look at the rapid and sometimes bizarre evolution of our experience on the road.

Eight American Poets: An Anthology
Published in Paperback by Vintage Books (March, 1997)
Authors: Joel Conarroe, Theodore Roethke, Elizabeth Bishop, Robert Lowell, John Berryman, Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath, Allen Ginsberg, and James Merrill
Average review score:

From "Six" to "Eight"
"Eight American Poets," edited by Joel Conarroe, is a fine anthology. The introduction notes that this book was "designed as a companion volume to 'Six American Poets,'" also edited by Conarroe. "Eight" follows the same plan as "Six": rather than anthologize a huge company of poets who are represented by only a few pieces each, each of Conarroe's books focuses on a relatively small group of poets, each of whom is represented by a substantial selection. Conarroe's approach allows the reader to get a fuller feel of each poet in the anthology format.

The poets of "Eight" are Theodore Roethke, Elizabeth Bishop, Robert Lowell, John Berryman, Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath, Allen Ginsburg, and James Merrill. Each poet's work is prefaced by a substantial individual introduction.

There are many masterpieces in this book. Curiously, I found the most compelling poems to be those that focus on nature: Roethke's "The Meadow Mouse," Bishop's "The Fish," Plath's "Mushrooms," and Merrill's "The Octopus." Poems like these combine skillfully used language with keen insight, and reveal these poets to be true heirs of Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson (two of the featured artists in "Six American Poets").

Overall, I felt that "Eight" was not as strong as its sister volume, "Six." Although there are many poetic masterpieces in "Eight," there is also much material which, in my opinion, hasn't aged well. The so-called "confessional poetry" of some of these writers strikes me as overwrought. Some of the longer poems failed to resonate with me. I was particularly disappointed by Berryman's "Homage to Mistress Bradstreet," especially since I am an admirer of Anne Bradtreet's own work. Admittedly, this criticism may merely reflect my own personal tastes, but I submit it for the reader's consideration.

The fact that so many of these poets either wrote about each other, or pop up in the editor's introductions to each others' work, sometimes gives the book as a whole a creepy, incestuous feel. And the fact that so many of these poets committed suicide, had long-term mental health problems, and/or suffered from addictions further gives the book as a whole a rather morbid feel. On second thought, maybe this group of eight is a bit problematic!

Still, editor Conarroe has assembled an impressive anthology that I would recommend for students and teachers, as well as to a general readership. Although a mixed bag, "Eight American Poets" contains some truly enduring work by an octet whose legacy is secure.

Great anthology introducing readers to.........
.........the best known and loved poetry of eight well-known twentieth century American poets. Includes well known poems such as Bishop's "The Fish", Roethke's "My Papa's Waltz", Berryman's "Dream Songs", Merrill's "Lost in Translation", Sexton's "Ringing the Bells", and many others.

Like Conarroe's "Six American Poets", the anthology introduces us to each poet with a short biography that is presented before the poet's work. We learn about their lives and come to understand some of the primary forces that have shaped their poetry. I have found that this greatly enriches the experience of reading poetry because I better see the struggles that lead to each individual creation. After each collection, Conarroe offers a list of books and anthologies where each poet has been published so that we, should we wish, can come to know the work of a given poet much better.

This anthology is a wonderful starting place for someone who, like me, desires an introduction to some of the greatest American poetry ever produced. Personally, I feel, after reading this anthology that I have come to truly appreciate the work of Elizabeth Bishop and Theodore Roethke, in particular. I had never known their work well, but suddenly each jumped off the page at me, Bishop for her wonderfully vivid descriptions and Roethke for his intensely moving subjects. Plath and Sexton also really spoke to me, their work so reflecting their lives. Overall, this anthology is superbly worthwhile reading!

An arguably crazy and wonderful flock of poets
Ah, a fine comparison and contrast in studies on the eight best American confessional poets ever. Kudos to the editor on a fine choice of poems, and candid biographies on each poet. Sylvia Plath, Anne Sexton, Allen Ginsberg, John Berryman, Theodore Roethke, Elizabeth Bishop and the other guy, here's to you.

Handbook of Supply Chain Management

Authors: James B. Ayers and Jim Ayers
Average review score:

a daughter's love
hi dad. loved the book. it was very interesting and informative. keep up the good work!

Highly Recommended
There are a lot of books out there that say they can supply you with the "Know-how" of supply chain management, but the Handbook of Supply Chain Management truly describes the supply chain as a "System". It views all critical material as elements, which are efficient in building an essential strong company. This handbook lays a foundation for others to follow.

This manual is a valuable reference, which helps the reader to grasp an understanding of supply chain strategies using a how-to guide. The instructive chapters walk you through all the important aspects of successful management. Contains actual studies, which can be viewed as educational tools and how to apply them to achieve the best possible results.

Overall, I highly recommend this book and I have already applied it in the optimization of our processes.

Manager, Technical Operations Planning

Handbook of Supply Chain Management
My company is a contract manufacturer operating at multiple sites internationally producing consumer products for many different Customers. As a supply chain improvement team leader I found the Handbook extremely useful as a comprehensive resource for the latest techniques in supply chain management, particularly, the sections on strategy and how to use supply chains to improve a competitive position. This is a great book and I would highly recommend it to anyone undertaking a similar effort.

Feed My Sheep: A Passionate Plea for Preaching
Published in Paperback by Soli Deo Gloria Pubns (November, 2002)
Authors: R. Albert Mohler Jr., James Boice, Derek Thomas, Joel R. Beeke, R. C. Sproul, John Armstrong, Sinclair Ferguson, Don Kistler, Eric Alexander, and John Piper
Average review score:

Food for the Shepherd
This is an excellent collection of essays by the greatest preachers in the Reformed tradition today. Some of the topics include The Primacy of Preaching (Mohler), The Teaching Pastor (Sproul), Evangelistic Preaching (Alexander), and The Foolishness of Preaching (Boice). John Piper's essay on Preaching to Suffering People is one of the best things he has ever written and by itself is worth the price of the book ten times over. Derek Thomas' essay on Expository Preaching is full of very good instruction. Joel Beakes' contribution on Experimental Preaching is also excellent. I highly recommend this book for pastors. If you are not a pastor, consider purchasing it for your pastor as a gift. He will be appreciative.

Must Read!!!
A must read for those who have a passion and desire to preach the word from the Biblical perspective...... This book is not limited to pastors but also to anyone who desire to teach the word of God such as Small Group leaders, Sunday School teachers, etc... The Authors of this book are among my favorites: John MacArthur, Piper, Mohler, Sproul, etc.. You will enjoy it from these passionate men of God.

Drink Deeply of this Scriptural Well
The Fact that this book is excellent should be no surprise, merely take a glance at the authors. This book will probably offend pastors who are in to the modern pop pyschology, but then they probably wouldn't be reading it anyway. Granted, that was probably unfair but...
Naturally some chapters are better than others, here are a few:

"The Lasting Effect of Experimental Preaching"--the essay on spiritual formation--worth the price of the book.

"The Primacy of Preaching"--by Albert Mohler--very good, a wake up call to the church.

"Expository Preaching"--good and bad examples of expository preaching, very fun chapter.

"Preaching to Suffering People"--by John Piper. It is by Piper, enough said.

"A reminder to Shepherds"--By John Macarthur, a fitting close to a fine book.
